Aims of the Project
Identify the needs of elderly people and their carers.
To meet these needs in accordance with Christian principles regardless of race, creed or gender.
To be open and adapt to the changing circumstances experienced by elderly people.
To work in partnership with other statutory and voluntary organisations working with the elderly.
Project Activities
We attempt to meet these needs through the following activities and events:
A twice weekly Lunch Club, this is on Tuesdays and Fridays at the Church Centre.
Occasional outings and events, these include places such as restaurants, pubs, shops and places.
An annual holiday.
Running the Project
The centre staff consists of a full time community worker for the elderly, a part time cook, a part time clerical support worker and a team of volunteers.
We are always looking for volunteers.
The responsibility for managing the work is undertaken by an executive committee.
We have a fully equipped hall which is available for hire for parties and functions. The project organises monthly fund raising events for the holiday and day trips, these include beer and skittles evenings, quiz nights and barn dances.
St. Martin's Youth & Community Centre provides a varied programme of activities that caters for a wide section of the local community. We try to cater for all needs but we would welcome any suggestions as to how we might improve our provision.
We aim to provide a safe and supportive environment where people have the opportunity to gain new skills and experiences, look at issues affecting their lives and socalise with peers.
